A toxic, murderous couple, paired with a suburban Californian town…what could go wrong?

“You” follows bookstore manager Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), whose seemingly innocent crushes turn into downright creepy obsessions. From social media stalking to watching them through their windows, Joe will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it involves murder.

Three seasons in, Joe has met his match with Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), a chef from LA who has a twisted past.

Season three begins with Joe and Love moving to Madre Linda, a tight-knit community, filled with wealthy ‘mom-fluencers’ and their families. In this town, it’s going to be a challenge for the pair’s wicked ways to go unnoticed.

Unsurprisingly, Joe is distracted with his new fixation: their next-door neighbour, who we can only assume will be his next subject of stalking and pursuing.

Love, however, is getting friendly with local blogger Sherry Conrad (Shalita Grant), who is a highlight of the series - a charming, entertaining character who has a hunch about the couple’s strange ways.

Joe is back up to his old tricks in Season 3

Watching how this destructive duo took on the challenge of working together was an interesting sight, but it often felt repetitive. Considering “You” has just been renewed for Season 4, questions are raised on what direction it will be heading in next.

The sinister narration and compelling storylines keep the show interesting, but the all-too-familiar structure of Goldberg finding a woman to obsess over and him eliminating obstacles that come in his way has become predictable at times.

Joe and Love teamed up this season

Season three failed to elevate the second season, as it often left questions unanswered, and it sometimes lacked the shock level viewers became accustomed to.

“You” still remains captivating, and it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, but also remind you to never trust a “nice guy”…
